Full review: www.autoguide.com Despite being the first and closest rival to the Toyota Prius, Honda’s Civic Hybrid has never been a serious competitor to the car who’s name is synonymous with gasoline-electric transportation. True, it’s never been close enough in the fuel economy race to ever make a threat, but Honda would tell you it was never intended to be a direct rival either. The Prius is a hybrid. The Civic Hybrid is a Civic first and a hybrid second, with everything that that entails.

@mb013962
I have over 10,000 miles on mine and the transmission is smooth and not jerky. The only thing different from other automobiles I’ve owned in the past: After starting the car and putting it in reverse, there is about a 1-1.5 second delay before you can start backing up.
February 5th, 2012 at 2:49 pm
@boldger13 is the transmission good?
February 5th, 2012 at 3:30 pm
I do not find any jolt when it switches to gas from electric or vice versa. Also I get better gas mileage in the city than interstate.

I own this car and love it!

Why the fuck must everyone be a hater? Just enjoy the video, take the tid-bits of what you see here, and move on. Must you always hate on everything the video entitles you, if you hate this review, go out there and review this shit yourself, or maybe don’t buy the fucking car. It’s obviously still doing great for Honda because they keep on bringing it back and people are buying it because I see Civic Hybrids everywhere (in Tampa, FL) so suck it and buy a Prius if you’re so mad. God-fucking-damn

arent the prius a little smaller?
February 5th, 2012 at 6:05 pm

February 5th, 2012 at 6:21 pm
cheap interior as always, go figure
February 5th, 2012 at 6:25 pm
@TheBlessedbabi If you think this hybrid is a little too much, go check out the Toyota Prius again and it might wake you up a bit. I think this is the only hybrid I’ve seen that doesn’t show itself off, which is why I’m going to buy this.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:40 pm
Why so much hate? It maybe a less efficient hybrid, but at least it’s one of the most efficient vehicles out now.

I live in Seattle, am I the only one who gets annoyed when people refer to DC as Washington without any indication? Jus sayin.
February 5th, 2012 at 7:57 pm
The transition sounds fucking piss me off
February 5th, 2012 at 7:58 pm
You have to be an idiot to pick this over the Prius. IMA is gay compared to Toyota’s parallel hybrid system.
February 5th, 2012 at 8:58 pm
How about producing and recycling those batteries ?
February 5th, 2012 at 9:12 pm
Doesn’t the development of the batteries for these cars extremely harmful to the enviorment? Yeah… back to the drawing board, and back to my Rav 4.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:50 pm
@skully720 yea but the cars of yesterday are nowhere near like they are today. Back then they were built like bricks. Not full of plastic and cheaper parts. Honda’s track record with reliability has proven they are real cars. Ford dropped the ball for years with reliability. Its been proven in studies. Sure they’ve gotten better since but still cant compare to a Honda. I’ve had 2, 2002 Mustang’s before and both didnt last for crap.
February 5th, 2012 at 10:41 pm
@stringfellowhawke247 my uncle has a Mustang fastbck from way back in the 60′s and the only things hes changed are the tires, brakes, and exhaust, and of course the battery, everything else are the original parts
February 5th, 2012 at 10:50 pm
@skully720 A real car? ha! Come back and say that after 100,000 miles.
February 5th, 2012 at 11:26 pm
meh, ill stick with a 2011 5.0 liter 400 horsepower Ford Mustang…. you know… a real car
February 5th, 2012 at 11:51 pm
Get A Life. Something is wrong with you guys. You guys speak like Automobile Magazines. Totally Off.

If this car is insanely small, you should comment other videos. If this car is insanely small, what would you say about the Honda Fit or Smart Car??
February 6th, 2012 at 1:03 am
@Big10fluff my dads 2004 civic hybrid has tranny problems too, were gonna change the fluid
February 6th, 2012 at 1:07 am
Bullshit. I own this model. Have had more problems with it than with any other previous car. Purchased this lemon at LINDSAY HONDA COLUMBUS.
February 6th, 2012 at 1:48 am
just traded in my p.o.s and bought this as my real first buy, used under 30k miles and honestly very pleased throughout, yeah in the beginning the electronic assist feels a little awkward at times but it’s really just a learning curve as you learn to work with the car and let it know what you’re doing. This video didn’t mention safety ratings where the hybrid has full side curtain airbags both front and rear srs standard, kudos to sales team for not being at my throat and ridding my clunker, ty

February 6th, 2012 at 2:28 am

February 6th, 2012 at 2:51 am
GREAT video but i wish that you would go MORE into detail such as acceleration and breaking.
But other than that great video i would rather get the honda civic than the toyota prius
February 6th, 2012 at 3:19 am
